If we find out that Guerin offered 5/9 and KK wanted 5/10 and Guerin wouldn't do it I will be so mad I'll spit tacks.

This can only mean 1 thing.
And if it means anything else the person behind it should be shot dead where he or she stands.

5 years @ 45mil per the Athletic.

Looks like Billy made a more than fair offer and Kirill tried to hold out for more (either more money or fewer years). Billy said no and called his bluff. Eventually, Kirill gave in and made the right choice.
Good job, Billy.

This is rather simply put, but for a Minnesota Wild fan, this is really great news. It took about 2 games last year to know that this kid was the most talented player to ever wear a Wild sweater. And, after Fiala score 37 goals this coming season, he'll get a similar contract.

Where do see this deal now that’s it’s all said and done? Fair for both sides?
I’m not a great NHL salary cap mind…all I know is that the kid was a stud last year.

I think from a compromise perspective this is about as good as it gets. From every indication his agent wanted fewer years, the Wild wanted more. The salary looks comparable to what we should expect to get out of him production wise. iirc he wasn't injury prone in Russia so the potential for another Glass Groin Gaborik seems less likely. Whether or not the Wild can adequately add the necessary pieces around him remains to be seen but from my armchair this deal looks quite solid.Kenneth Noisewater wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:48 pmWhere do see this deal now that’s it’s all said and done? I heard initially what you said, Agent wanted 3 years (was that not the talk throughout this entirety?) and Guerin wanted 5....
Now that the deal is at 5....I'm just now hearing that Guerin wanted 7-8 and 5 is the "middle" ground they settled on.....not that it matters in the scheme of it all but WTF with "reporting" now-a-days.....
Either way it's a GREAT deal for Guerin and the Wild. Getting Kirill in his prime years....I think this dude could be "underpaid" after a few more seasons... He's got unicorn style skills, if he's any indication of a "new breed" Russian hockey player- then draft more Russians (assuming Kirill will be idolized and mimmicked in Russia for years to come ala Ovechkin). The North America-style player has got some (new)competition!

The no trade clause sucks though. If he demands a trade in those final years he can basically pick where he goes. No need to worry about what might happen in 4-5 years but that no trade clause sucks.Slap Shot wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 3:10 pmI think from a compromise perspective this is about as good as it gets. It would kill his trade value. That's for sure. But if it comes to that, it's already a fail. It would just make the failure a little worse.flexbuffchest wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 7:50 pmThe no trade clause sucks though. If he out-earns his paycheck he'll be in demand which makes the no-trade less problematic. Plus if the Wild aren't good enough to entice him to stay beyond the 5th year then fuck it all anyway.flexbuffchest wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 7:50 pmThe no trade clause sucks though. at least the Wild should be in a spot 5 years down the road to give him a big offer before he hits the market.Slap Shot wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 9:18 pmIf he out-earns his paycheck he'll be in demand which makes the no-trade less problematic. Re: What was your favorite memory of Kirill on Wild?
Kirill is the real deal. First time since Gaborik (we drafted) that has 40 goal potential and he looks better than Gaborik.
We have 5 yrs to figure it out.
With the cap hits kicking in the next three we will need Boldy, Rossi and Beckman and Addison (sp) to be NHL ready and productive. (I think two of them work out for sure, maybe they one of the Dewy brothers to rise up also)
The Wild might be the only pro team in MN on the rise.

I was there. 1/4 full.
They were playing CO's AHL team and it was preseason, nonetheless Kap and Zucc make things look really easy.

Were Rossi & Boldy in the lineup and if so how'd they look?

Boldy played. He didn't do anything to get noticed. I was hoping he'd look like someone they couldn't send down.
Newhook was more noticeable for CO by comparison.
