Investing in helium

Post by Voltron »

Helium is a very light gas and it leaves the earth. Whenever someone gets party balloons and they float off, earth loses some helium. It is also used in welding, MRI machines, airbags, nuclear reactors, and research balloons.

Say I do the math and realize it will be a valued commodity just based on party balloon sales alone. What would be the best way to invest in helium?

Same question but for wine. Just buy a few bottles and hold onto em for a while? Or is there an ETF for this?

can you make helium with a good chemistry kit? maybe bottle it up in your basement and then try to sell your wares to the balloons for birthdays industry leaders.

If you are going to start a helium business, you should have your facts straight. Helium is not a very light gas. A pound of helium has the same mass as a pound of lead. What you want to put in your business brochure is that helium has a lower density than other elements, and therefore rises in a mixture of air (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen). Density of Helium = 0.00018 g/ml. Density of air:  g ml = 0.0013 g/ml. These values will fluxuate with differences in temperature and atmospheric pressure.
Any advice on how to invest in it?
