***2023 Froob NFL Mock Draft*** Completed

I considered delaying a bit to make my selection so you arent my competition at the VF in bingo, but hey I never delay things in these drafts.

WIth the 235th pick in the Froob draft the Green Bay Packers select

Jay Ward S LSU 6-1 188

Every draft there are players that I catch an eye on that standout because they make play after play after play. Then say who is that #5 who is constantly making these plays. For LSU in the past couple of seasons that guy was Jay Ward. He is a bit of a tweener in the defensive backfield, not having the overall speed/hip flex to be a corner or the mass to be a safety. His play set all over the field in college reminds me a lot of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, lining up as a slot corner, a free safety, and as a box safety. He reads and reacts better than most college defensive players and is a sure tackler, which makes the most of his average times speed. I see him as a free safety in the NFL and a player who can coach your defense on the field.

There is a site that on a few draft profiles posts quotes from NFL scouts. I have found those quotes to be very accurate and this is what they said of Ward:

“He is an absolute dude. He’s the guy who people listened to on that defense. Worst-case scenario, he will be a great special teams guy.” -- Regional scout for AFC team

When these scout types use the word "dude", that is a major complement in their world. It is a player who gets it and brings it.

Clots overview:
Not too bad of a draft. If there is any HC that has experience in dealing with a person such as Richardson, it Shane Steichen who helped developed Jalen Hurts. Richardson is in good hands.

Screwed up on Duncan, but that’s because I thought you guys had a momentarily lapse of reason and left OT Williams. Should’ve went the guy from Oklahoma, but this isn’t too bad of a reach.

Turner and Mingo are steals for their picks. They will both go higher and should produce day one.

Abdullah was also a good value pick. Happy with that pick.

The rest are based off of mock draft I looked at. No clue where these guys go, but they fill needs.

Seahawks overview
Bitch did a good job with the first five picks. Anderson fills a major need on defense and Johnson give Genius Smith another weapon. Great first round value here.

Schmitz fills a major needs on the interior part of the oline. Russell Wilson is probably pissed that Seattle is actually drafting olineman now that he is gone.

Not sure if they needed two corners, but they got some good ones in Brents and Rush. One of them will eventually start opposite of Woolen.

My picks are good ones as well. Williams adds more depth to its LB core and McIntosh should be a quality backup to Walker.

The rest are picks I grabbed from local mock drafters. They fill needs and that’s all I’m trying to do here with picks this late

Long and athletic edge player who projects best as standup end on odd man NFL fronts. This is another Canadien whose football development is still a long ways ahead of him. Right now he is an athlete playing football who can make football plays just using his athletic ability, including ranking in the top ten in the SEC in QB sacks. He has limited pass rush skills and bend at this time. But I watched him make several plays behind the line of scrimmage shooting the gap and getting a first step rush on an offensive lineman.

Lonnie Phelps Edge Kansas 6-2 244

This guy is an energetic brick firehouse. He lacks the length that higher drafted edge players might have, but he has power as demonstrated by his 31 reps on the bench press at the combine. Tremendous first step and active motor gets him to the ball. I think he projects as a NFL rotational OLB in a 3-4 front and a pass rush specialist that can be very effective running stunts. Some of the draft analysts suggests he has some zone coverage ability/experience but I never really saw him drop off in coverage (Kansas has the worst uniforms for being able to identify players).

With the 244th pick in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys select WR Justin Shorter out of Florida. After opting for a smaller, speedy WR in the previous round - this time they add size to their receiving corps. Shorter is 6-4 229 with a huge catch radius and big, strong hands. Runs good routes, no drops this year, big red zone target, he can pick up extra yards running through tackles - plus he's a willing and very capable blocker. With the 246th pick in the draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select QB Max Duggan out of TCU. Duggan (6-2 210) slips to the 7th round for plenty of legit concerns - but coaches still love him for his toughness, leadership and football IQ. If there are doubts about his arm, there are none about his legs (4.5 forty, 96%) - and his ability to be a dual threat in the red zone. At the very least, the Bengals needed a second option behind Joe Burrows - as of right now, the only other QB on the roster is former Viking Jake Browning.
