not making an excuse, just a point in time. if they got that steal they go up 81-74. instead they got down 82-80 and have played poorly since.
multiple missed free throws, tons of fouls, multiple FT rebounds given up, bad shots, lazy rebounding. just bad everything.

now even getting clowned on by braun. and again.

their second unit didn't have a great game. they actually fell further behind with joker on the floor in the 4th quarter--and he had his best game of the four they played for sure tonight. oh well. they'll probably get the mavericks in the second round. that could be a blessing in disguise for the wolves.

OKC has a game against dallas--but the mavericks won't have anything to play for in that one. pretty sure phoenix will have something to play for against the wolves on sunday.

Yeah. And I think they ran out of gas. They played a lot last night and then travel to altitude. It’s why they needed to make hay earlier in the game and couldn’t let it get right late. But they couldn’t get that done.

In fairness, it’s a tall order.


Maybe Wemby will deliver a performance for the ages and knock off these guys in an “I’ve arrived” statement game. Who knows?

With that said, the #2 seed almost seems like the better place to finish. Just have to make sure we win out and don't fuck up these last two games.

Lack that killer instinct and don’t realize how big of a loss this, and the last Denver game was. We needed the #1 and now are going to have to steal one in Denver, assuming one of the more seasoned vet teams like the Suns don’t turn it up and surprise us first. Denver went 10-1 at home in the playoffs last year and value the home court and played like it. We didn’t capitalize because we still are somewhat unmotivated at times to turn it up. When the 3’s are falling, we are fine..when we struggle on the kick out threes, it gets rough, especially when we don’t get the easy boards. We need option B when that happens, that is initiate contact and force the refs to call fouls on Jokic. We don’t seem to know how to do this. It is something we will learn, hopefully.

Denver's second unit has been fantastic tonight.

this is what i thought was a big key to the game--along with joker's play. the wolves second unit, which has been playing so great for almost every game since KAT has been out, didn't dominate against the nuggets last night. nickeil, KA, monte and Jmac only scored 15 points. that's not going to get it done. especially crucial was the start of the 4th quarter.

Asked Rudy Gobert about why he felt they again lost the minutes when Nikola Jokic was off the floor, which turned into a good answer on another one of their bugaboos not specific to this matchup -- playing against switching defenses.

"I think we didn’t take advantage of the small lineup. They were switching everything. They were switching small guys on me and Naz and we took tough shots. I think we have some work to do as a team. We have to prepare for that -- teams switching on us with the size that we have. We got to punish them inside. We have bigs that can punish them inside, but we got to do it consistently. We shouldn’t let them off the hook for playing that way, and then punish them inside with driving the ball. Punish them with passing, all kind of ways. But we cannot let teams off the hook for switching. We’re a big team and we got to take advantage of it."
