Denver’s Weakness on D against SA

Post by BuDG123 »

San Antonio just beat them by driving to the hole, not dishing it out for the 3’s. They also had someone coming from the backside crashing the O boards, not sitting waiting for the corner 3. The wolves might want to watch that San Antonio approach, they had Denver on their heals by taking a different approach then we did. Maybe we get Jokic and Gordon a few fouls.

They should check out the two games that Minnesota beat Denver this season. See what worked for those guys and try that.

We won 2 against Denver when we drove to the hole and got to the line +10 and +17 more than Denver in our 2 wins, even though Ant went 0-8 from 3 in one of those games. He went 9-10 from the line and Gordon had 4 fouls..and we lost the game where we had 43% from 3’s. Just like San Antonio did, not kicking it out and driving to the lane. SA had 13 more FT’s than Denver tonight. You don’t kick out against Denver, you drive the lane..you win more often. We get hung up when we live and die by the 3 at times.

Jokic was pretty hesitant on defense because of foul trouble

Yep, he was intent on stopping Wemby who went right at him and got him 5 fouls..Jokic and Gordon will never be hesitant like that kickin out 3’s because they will have 1-2 fouls, which Ant specifically said he did intentionally last game “because he saw Jokic right there in the lane, so I kicked it out, and we just missed them”. It’s likely the wrong approach..you get Jokic on his heals..Gordon w 4 fouls is huge too, especially against us. You tell Ant, “Go right at him”. Get the fouls, Don’t rely on 40% 3’s or die on kick outs. It rarely works against Denver. You can see it if you watch Denver games (I live in CO), so I’ve seen them a lot. Jokic isn’t as effective when pressed hard to play aggressive D underneath.

This worked in the PHX series as well. McDaniels crashing the weak side. Towns on Jokic, force him to dish it out, when he does clog the passing lanes to Murray at the point and Porter JR. at the right arc. Gordon will be crashing too, have Rudy box him out. Make the other guys beat you.

They need the same attitude they went into the Suns series with and they will be alright. This team's biggest weakness is itself. If they hit this with the same attitude they did the last series, they will be alright.

I'm sure the wolves are looking at every game Denver played this year (Win or Lose) this week. They've got 6 days to prepare and a ton of coaches to work on this stuff.

I love the idea of driving on them. Jokic is a great player, but he's certainly not athletic and if we can drive the lane and get fouls on him and Gordon (who's VERY athletic) win can win this series.

It will be interesting to see how the refs are in this series. While Denver is the defending champs, they're certainly not the media darling that the Suns were. Will we get more calls in this series than in the Denver series? Will Ant get the calls he deserves when driving the lane?

Yes, namely fouls.... if they get too many fouls it will be tough vs good opponents.

IF the refs suddenly decide to call ticky tack and fake shit in the playoffs, then they are specifically targeting MN's elite D.

Ant should absolutely be getting better calls going forward. It's no secret that everyone basically sees him as the new face of the league. But propbably depends on which team the refs placed bets on going in.
